Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What is the initial investment?
-
New store costs range from $85,000 ex GST nationally. This includes the initial franchise fee, shop fit costs, all equipment and 5 weeks of training. We recommend you also allow approximately $15,000 for start-up working capital.
Existing stores are also available for sale nationally. Please enquire with the Franchise Recruitment Manager for further information on the stores available.
What does it take to financially qualify?
As a guide, applicants will be required to substantiate unencumbered funds or have a net worth of at least 40% of the total investment. You will need to organise your own finance. Please see your bank for pre-approval prior to formally expressing interest in a new or existing Wendys store.
Is Wendys accredited with any bank?
Yes, Wendys is accredited with the National Australia Bank and Westpac and can provide details for the contact person in your region.
What is the franchise fee?
The franchise fee for a new store for the first 5 year term is $20,000 (ex gst) and is included in the start-up cost listed above. A $12,000 renewal fee applies for each subsequent 5 year term.
What ongoing fees are payable?
The Wendys royalty fee is 6% and the marketing levy is 4%. These are paid by you weekly, calculated against the net turnover of the store.
You will also be responsible for all rent payments for the site. Wendys will negotiate the lease on your behalf and will hold the head lease.
How much money can I make if I purchase a new Wendys store?
The amount of profit made is dependent on many things, including store location, rent and the attitude and drive of the franchisee. Applicants will be required to submit a business plan and cash flow budget on the store of choice to forecast future profitability.
What are Wendys looking for in a franchisee?
While running a Wendys is seriously good fun, it's also a serious decision to take on the responsibilities of running your own business.
We are looking for people to join our team of experts in all things yum. This means you'll have a passion for customer service, thrive on making people happy and will be fully committed to providing the best treat experience for every customer, every time.
Do I have to work in the store?
Yes - Wendys stores are owner operated businesses and we ask that the nominated operator work a minimum of 30 hours a week in the store. Wendys does not approve applicants simply looking for an investment - running a successful store takes time and commitment and we are looking for franchisees who love the Wendys brand just as much as we do; people who have Pink Blood!
What training do you offer?
We offer a comprehensive five week training program. Weeks one and two are spent in an accredited training store in your state, where you'll learn about all things yum and how to successfully run a Wendys store. Week three is held at our National Support Office in Adelaide where you'll learn how to successfully operate your new business, including recruitment, local area marketing, financial management and more. Week four is spent back in the accredited training store ahead of the final week, which you'll spend in your very own store with your business consultant alongside you for support every step of the way.
